First wedding of the season and boy was I thrilled to travel to Seattle for it!
I invited a good friend/photographer to travel and help photograph the wedding, went to my first professional baseball game, met up with good friends, ate fantastic clam chowder at Pike’s Market, and met the amazing bride and groom for the first time!
Derek & Katy’s wedding took place in the old Washington Hall which is now used as a dinner theatre. Dramatic lights, artistic rooms, tables full of mugs, tons of friends and family, and the lovely couple made this trip very special. As soon as I met the couple I could tell right away just how in love they are and I wish the best of happiness and many loving years to them both!
The day started at the Sorrento Hotel close to downtown Seattle. The bride, bridesmaids, family and friends were all having a ball getting ready for the big event. Such a fun group of ladies to photograph and share stories with!
As soon as Katy put her veil on and everyone left the room it was time for Derek to come up and see Katy for the first time in her gown. It was such a touching moment, one that will last a lifetime and one that I will never forget.
The bubbly was popped, shared with friends and then it was off to Washington Hall!
There were both artistic and beautiful backdrops for all of our portraits. It was interesting and challenging working around the busy urban setting but definitely worth every minute we spent photographing Katy & Derek. Everyone who drove by honked, waved, complimented, and congratulated the happy couple.
This is what we called the “Mushroom Room”. The small room was painted black and white, alternating colors on each wall with mushrooms, trees, branches, and swirls galore.
It was much too interesting to skip!
The ceremony and reception were filled with laughter and happiness.
Katy’s father officiated the wedding while close friends and family witnessed Katy and Derek exchange their vows.
The mugs were a fun and unique touch to the wedding.
All of these mugs were purchased at random garage sales (for under $.50 each) and each guest could pick and choose which mug he or she want to drink out of that night.
Of course both my assistant and I had to take one as well as a souvenir from Seattle.
